• General Guidelines

The Indoor league generally runs from October through April allowing for approximately 20 weeks of league play, plus playoffs. The season will be split into two halves (breaking for the holidays).

Team fees are $250 per half season ($500 for the entire season). Payment of team fees MUST be received no later than the third night of league play. The penalty for late payment is the loss of each match until the fee is paid. Paying your team fee online is preferred, but you may also pay by a single check made payable to Berkshire Volleyball.

Team Rosters must be completed and turned in by the team captain, on or before the third night of league play, with ALL players’ signed waivers attached.

Division formats

ADVANCED DIVISION ONLY: The format of play is with 3 men/3 women. There will not be a ‘women’s touch rule’ in effect. Teams will be allowed to play with 3 men/2 women (if they cannot field a sub for their 3rd woman), but will have to play with a Ghost Player. The Advanced division is “self-reffing,” but must still supply a work team that facilitates the earlier or later match. To mix things up a bit, part of each half will be played as reverse-coed.

RECREATIONAL & COMPETITIVE DIVISIONS: You must have a minimum of 2 women on the court at all times. If you play with 3 men/2 women, a Ghost Player is NOT required. If you can only field a team of 4 players – 2 must be women. Both divisions must supply a work team that referees the earlier or later match.

COMPETITIVE DIVISION ONLY: During the first half, all Competitive Division teams will play each other at least once. At the end of the first half, teams will be seeded based on their win-loss record. For the second half, the top-seeded teams will be pooled together and the bottom-seeded teams will be pooled together. These teams will play only those in their pool with playoffs at the end of the season.

ALL DIVISIONS:

  • Substitutions: Each team will be allowed to use male substitute players (not listed on their team roster) as needed, but they cannot use the same player more than twice. The use of a sub needs to be indicated on the Score Sheet and the Match Scores Reporting Sheet. Male Advanced players cannot sub in a lower division, but male players from a lower division CAN sub in an upper division. Women players can sub in any division, unlimited times.
  • Playoffs: To be eligible for the playoffs, a male player must play at least 3 league matches (with his team) during the season. All teams are limited to a maximum of 12 people on their roster with a maximum of 6 male players.
  • Rosters: Rosters are fluid until the third week of play in the second half, which means you can add players to your roster until then, as long as they are registered members. A player may only be assigned to ONE team roster at a time.

Match start & end times

  • Early match starts at 6:30pm & ends at 8pm.
  • Late match starts at 8:15pm and ends at 9:45pm.
  • Start & end times will be enforced!

Penalties for teams not ready to begin play at the match start time are:

  • 5 minutes late, forfeit game 1
  • 10 minutes late, forfeit game 2
  • 15 minutes late, forfeit match
  • Forfeitures are to be noted on the Score Sheet signed by both captains

Each match is allotted 1.5 hours for match play, plus 15 minutes of warm-up time prior to the match. All facilities open at 6pm for equipment set up and team warm-ups. Facilities close at 10pm.

Team responsibilities

(A complete list can be found in the clipboards at each school.)

  • Working teams must provide at least 2 workers for the early/late match (up ref and down ref). Both of these individuals are working the game. A down ref is exactly that, a ref, not just a person keeping score, they must be involved in the game, watching lines and the net.
  • Working teams must keep matches moving on a timely basis! That means making sure matches start and finish on time. Penalties are given to teams that don’t start on time.
  • Working teams of the early match are responsible for setting up the nets, getting all necessary equipment out for the match. This includes making sure that all supplies are in order (i.e. score sheets, reporting sheets, whistles, first aid kits, balls, net equipment, etc.).
  • Working teams of the late match are responsible for reporting BOTH sets of match scores by the next day. AND, responsible for taking down the nets, properly securing all equipment back in the storage facility, and checking that facilities are left clean before they leave.
  • Honor calls. Please remember that each team is responsible for making their own honor calls.
  • Leave the gym as you find it. Make sure you take all trash from the facility when you leave. We have had complaints in the past and do not want to jeopardize our use of these facilities due to carelessness.
